MAPPA Lab at Techn-Ai: Technology, Archaeology and Artificial Intelligence

The School of Specialisation in Archaeological Heritage at the University of Bologna is organising the conference “Techn-AI: Technology, Archaeology and Artificial Intelligence”, which will take place over two days.
The first day (9 December, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) will focus on the relationship between AI and archaeological materials; the second day (10 December, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) will be dedicated to multi-scale territorial analysis and the use of artificial intelligence in the interpretation of landscapes and contexts. During the two days, there will also be a poster session dedicated to student projects, which will present experiences and experiments on the use of new technologies applied to archaeology.

Federica Mauro and Elisa Paperini (PhD students in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Pisa) will each present their own poster.
Federica (you can read about her project here) will illustrate the new challenges and possible directions for the classification of ceramics, a field in which it is essential to know how to combine deep learning with specialist knowledge.
Elisa (her project is described here) will present the first results of her research, which aims to reconstruct palaeoenvironments from pollen data using AI techniques.

The conference (in english) can be followed online. The full programme is available at:
