MappaLab at the International Congress on Urban Archaeology in Braga
From 18 to 20 September 2025, the Braga City Council and the University of Minho will host the “International Congress of Urban Archaeology. What Future?”, an event marking the upcoming 50th anniversary of urban archaeology in Braga.
The congress will provide a space for reflection and debate on the future of urban archaeology, addressing profound changes since the 1970s and exploring its key dimensions: legislation and management, methodologies for preservation and documentation, data management and archiving, and the valorization of urban heritage and memory.
MAPPA Lab will also be represented: Gabriele Gattiglia, as Chair of MAIA [Managing Artificial Intelligence in Archaeology], will give a talk entitled “They Flutter in Front of Us: Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and New Research Methods in Urban Archaeology.” With him also Holly Wright, Vice-Chair of MAIA and member of the Archaeology Data Service (ADS), leading the discussion on data curation in Archaology.
