In recent years, artificial intelligence has found an increasing number of applications in the field of archaeology – from the identification of archaeological sites and the recognition of artefacts, to the use of robotics. These are promising developments that are helping to renew the tools and approaches of the discipline. At the same time, it is important to accompany these advancements with a reflection on the cultural, technical, and ethical implications of using AI in this context. This presentation offers an overview of current trends, providing insights for a conscious and critical use of intelligent technologies in archaeological practice.
